Professor Chris Ham took up his post as Chief Executive of The King’s Fund in April 2010. He has been professor of health policy and management at the University of Birmingham, England, since 1992. From 2000 to 2004 he was seconded to the Department of Health where he was director of the strategy unit, working with Ministers on NHS reform. Chris is the author of 20 books and numerous articles about health policy and management.

Dr Gruner has held senior positions in public and private health services. She is now the President of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators. She holds a long standing career as a consultant in health services and management particularly involved in organisation wide CQI, strategic planning, review of health services, organisation change, clinical governance and consumer participation mechanisms, both in Australia and overseas.

Graham is the former director for the Centre for Health Leadership and Research at Royal Roads University. He was also formerly director of the School of Leadership Studies, where he provided guidance and support for graduate degree programs, executive development programs as well as graduate certificate programs in the School of Leadership Studies. He is currently recognized as Professor Emeritus at RRU. He is currently working with a National LEADS Collaborative to support the implementation of LEADS initiatives.

Paul Mohapel wears many hats - he is a consultant, lecturer, educator, researcher, and a facilitator. He has a PhD in psychology from the University of Victoria and has worked as a neuroscience researcher for several years at Lund University hospital in Sweden, before returning back to Canada to pursue a Master's degree in leadership and training from Royal Roads University.

Jenny Simpson graduated from Manchester Medical School in 1976 followed by a Doctorate in Business Administration. Jenny currently works with the Department of Health and NHS Commissioning Board in the UK, as part of the NHS Revalidation Support Team, driving forward the radical changes to medical regulation as part of a system-wide approach to improving the quality of care and patient safety. Jenny is Chairman of the European Alliance of Medical Managers (EAMM).

Delegates visited the Surrey Memorial Hospital in Vancouver to explore first hand the role of leadership in transforming a community hospital to one with a significant academic campus.
